Friends,

If you’re planning your second, third, or even fourth wedding, I highly recommend booking a Monday night when our Soccer Clinic is scheduled—we’ve had perfect weather for it year after year! Despite how cold, rainy, and windy this spring has been, something special seems to happen when the first players arrive at Wyandanch Park. The wind settles, the sun breaks through, and it warms up just enough to create ideal soccer conditions. To show you how important this soccer clinic is to these children of Wyandanch – a grandmother told me her 11 year old girl only wants goalie gloves for the birthday (we bought them for her), and another 12 year old girl asked her mother for cleats for her birthday. Mom went to a second hand store and bought a pair for $6.00, and put on new laces, her daughter was thrilled to receive them. These are our children.

Last Monday, we had 107 children, and we’re expecting even more tonight. It continues to be an incredibly positive experience for everyone involved—children, parents, grandparents, Suffolk County Police, and our coaching staff. I could use a few more coaches if interested. Today I am asking for your time and energy; I am pleased to announce that we are scheduled to receive a 24-pallet food donation from the Church of Latter-day Saints, approximately 42,000 pounds of food on May 11th. The timing is fortuitous as with the loss of federal funding and a growing number of families and seniors in need, we’ve been concerned about maintaining an adequate food supply. While we have a forklift and pallet jacks available, we will need to manually break down 6–8 pallets and store the individual cartons into storage containers; this is where we need your help. With a full team, we can easily move everything using an assembly-line approach. We’re looking for volunteers—individuals, companies, or school groups—who are willing to lend a hand, rain or shine. The timing is very tight, as this delivery falls on the same day as our soccer clinic.

The tractor-trailer is scheduled to be here at 9:00 AM.

This is truly back to the basics: neighbors helping neighbors and feeding those in need.

Please let me know if you’re interested in helping out on May 11th or with soccer coaching. Call me! 917 863 3988

Thank you,

Joe
