Friends,
It’s either good karma, or someone must be looking over us, as we have had picture-perfect weather for all our outdoor spring events!
On Monday, May 20th, we could not ask for a more perfect day for our golf outing and it turned out to be a total success! I thank all the sponsors, players, volunteers, and everyone who made this special fundraiser successful.
The soccer clinic ran for nine Mondays, and again, we had perfect weather for each of those days! Special thanks to our coaches who have been with the program for many years; they are the true spirit of the clinic. Last Monday, under blue skies, we held the Soccer clinic BBQ complete with hot dogs, hamburgers, watermelons, cookies, chips, juices, water, and Italian ice; special thanks to Rich Schaffer and Tony Martinez for sponsoring the BBQ and to SCPD Police Officer Dara and the two SCPD Police Officer Nicks! As their name was called, each child proudly stepped up to receive a soccer medal and have their picture taken; it’s a big deal for the families. We developed the photographs and will build a collage and post it at the Masses for the families to take the pictures home.

The four white lines outlining the soccer field held 120 children, each with a different life story, some good and some not so good; however, while inside these four lines, all life’s problems are forgotten and the children just have fun with other children their own age, with loving coaches. It does not get better than this!
Summer Camp starts on Monday and we have these same four (albeit, imaginary) lines; we are registering more homeless, shelter, foster, and children in the custody of a grandparent this year. Sad, but this is the reason for the camp and we are happy to have them; we will ensure that each child has all their supplies necessary for camp including swimsuits and towels as many do not have bathing suits.
I thank the people and families that sponsored a child for camp; we do not refuse any child in need, and the sponsorships really help us with teachers’ salaries, breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, and transportation to the pool and other day trips events.
We look forward to a fun summer camp with good weather! Have a happy summer with your families!
Thank you,
Joe
