Friends,

After a fun week of earthquakes, aftershocks, and a Solar Eclipse, we are back to business!

The Suffolk County Police Department Community Relations Bureau, in conjunction with the EAC Network, is offering on-site inspections of car seats for the Wyandanch community. If, upon inspection, the car seat is unsafe, they will replace it. The free event will be held at the Wyandanch Wheatley Heights Ambulance Facility. The National Highway Traffic Safety Committee provides funding for the New Car Seat program. Police Officer Yasmin Gallant came to speak at two masses this past Sunday to share about the event, and she was very well received. PO Yasmin will be assisting with the car seats on the day of the event.

Last Sunday, we started registration for our PAL/First Precinct/Outreach Center soccer clinic, which will start on April 22nd. The Outreach supplies the soccer coaches and hosts the BBQ at the end of the season at the Outreach. We love to see our coaches come back every year. This has been a very positive, feel-good event for the community. In a town that does not have Little League or CYO sports, PAL will have over 100 children play soccer at Wyandanch Park! The children were happy to see the familiar faces of Police Officer Dara and Police Officer Nick at the registration; there were a lot of High-Fives!

The Prom dress collection for Wyandanch High School received a great boost this week. Rob Labiento, Director of Health and Wellness for the T.O.B., dropped off 17 brand new Prom Dresses and two bags of new makeup that was donated by Omnibus Fashions (located 72 E Main St in Babylon). These were beautiful dresses and a great gesture to help those less fortunate. If you go buy a dress at Omnibus, tell Karen and Maria you are part of the Outreach Family and thank them! This was special.

The Summer Camp Golf Outing is coming up on May 20th, and we are excited to share this day with our friends and supporters. This summer marks 41 years of summer camp! Over 40% of our summer camp children are homeless, shelter, foster, or children living with grandparents. The golf outing is a major fundraiser to help ensure a safe and fun summer environment for Wyandanch youth.

Families from St Anne’s Church in Garden City donated 150 exceptionally nice Easter Baskets again this year. It is rewarding to see the excitement from both the clients and their children as they receive the baskets. Children are children!

Separate issue:
I built a Barbie Photo Box for my granddaughter for her birthday party last year. I would like to give the Barbie Box to a child and family that would enjoy it as much as we did. I will drop it off at your house with my pickup truck. A small donation to the Outreach Center in return would be nice. I imagine I will have a “Swifty” photo box available soon 🙂
