With the holiday months behind us, I would like to extend a very special thank you to all those individuals that enabled the Outreach to fulfill its mission of serving families in need with food, winter coats, clothes, and not forgetting toys for the kids. We are now gearing up for our spring and summer activities.

The First Precinct/PAL/ Outreach Spring Soccer clinic will start taking applications in a few weeks here at the Outreach. This is one of the few organized sports events in Wyandanch, and we have reached our 100 maximum limit over the past few years; this is a very positive event both for the children and the community, and the volunteer coaches who come back every year to help are the best.

Naycha is already preparing for Summer Camp, and we look forward to welcoming the homeless, shelter, foster, and children in the custody of their grandparents as they have made up at least 40% of registrants in the past; this is another event close to my heart as we literally feed, love, and educate these less fortunate children. It’s also very rewarding when campers come back to the Outreach over the years as counselors or just to share how well they are doing; we have had doctors, teachers, nurses, and a few lawyers come back to back to share their success. Not all stories turn out well, and some are heartbreaking, but we try to give each child a loving experience here.

The Outreach Center Summer Camp golf outing is back and will be held on Monday, May 22nd; this is a major funding source for the camp, so please participate if you can. More to follow in a few days.

The food pantry and clothing pantry is experiencing a high level of activity as we are now providing food and clothing to over 1,500 individuals per month.

Students at St John the Baptist DHS held a food donation drive, their goal was to collect 2023 cans of soup and vegetables but this was easily surpassed!

It is encouraging to see young adults enthusiastically getting involved and providing food to those less fortunate.

With spring in arm’s reach, we are starting to collect Prom Dresses for the Wyandanch High School Prom and the 8th-grade dance at the Middle School. We accept dresses (and men’s suites) at the Outreach at any time.

Thank you.

Joe
