This is a great initiative!
As graduation approaches, every April the Outreach Center receives requests for prom dresses and men’s suits from the Wyandanch High School students. Like every graduating teenager, those in the less fortunate communities on Long Island also want to go to their prom but simply do not have the discretionary funds to fully participate.
In speaking with P.O. Dara at the PAL soccer clinic this week, she told me that the Suffolk County Association of Women Police, along with the Suffolk County Police Department, are hosting a Prom Dress and Men’s suit giveaway event this Saturday and Sunday (April 23rd & 24th) at the Suffolk County Police Academy Gym in Brentwood. All students are welcome to attend.
Attached are the flyers in English and Spanish with more details; if you know of anyone that can use a dress or suit, please forward to them.
I also have some dresses at the Outreach for any student who does not have transportation to Brentwood and I am working with Kelly Urena at the Wyandanch school.
Separately, the soccer clinic is in full swing and children are having a ball!
